Blood Donations Project

Blood donation is critical to help patients suffering traumas, cancers and other grave diseases. Blood donations are quick and must be done by healthy individuals, however, the proportion of people giving blood, especially at ages between 20 and 35, is relatively low. One of the reasons for this could be the lack of advertisement for blood donations, a lack of support by the University as well as a rather remote location for most students in Cambridge (Addenbrookes Hospital being behind the train station, when most departments and colleges are in front of the train station, up to 7 km away).

A way to increase the number of blood donations is to provide sites in colleges or near the town city center for students and staff to give easily their blood. The blood donation projects aims to get several colleges to provide rooms for the donation, and create a buddy system, where donors invite their friends to accompany them and also give blood. This would make the donation more reassuring , normalise the process and increase the number of donors.
